In today's IT and networking environment, operational efficiencies are paramount to meeting the communications needs of the business while maintaining budget discipline. But many IT organizations are throwing money out the window simply because they fail to understand the financial impact of the many projects on their plates and fail to prioritize these projects with the appropriate business goals in mind. The result is lost opportunities to improve the value of network services delivered to the business and wasteful spending on misplaced resources.

Governments will move to citizen-centric service models with major process changes. Annual budgets will link operating objectives to strategic plans, so that line managers and executives become accountable with clear objectives given at the start. This new approach will depend heavily on supporting technology and will help Government fulfill its role of enabling the private sector as a whole to flourish. How well the Government works and how well it optimizes its resources and service delivery has a direct impact on how well the private sector can function. To be successful, the government contracting community must understand and embrace this spirit when doing business with the government.
